Temuan ini dipublikasikan dalam jurnal Environmental Science &amp; Technology Letters pada 2024 lalu. Penelitian itu menawarkan harapan baru bagi masyarakat global yang semakin terpapar partikel plastik berukuran mikro hingga nano (NMPs) melalui konsumsi harian.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mikroplastik, partikel plastik berukuran kurang dari 5 milimeter, telah terdeteksi dalam tubuh manusia dengan tingkat yang mengkhawatirkan. Mayoritas masuk melalui makanan dan minuman, termasuk air keran. Dalam studi ini, peneliti menambahkan nanoplastik dan mikroplastik ke sampel air keran\u2014baik air keras (kaya mineral) maupun air lunak\u2014lalu merebusnya selama 5 menit. Hasilnya, hingga 90 persen NMPs terendap bersama kerak kapur (limescale) yang terbentuk saat air mendidih, terutama pada air keras. Partikel ini kemudian mudah disaring menggunakan saringan biasa seperti saringan teh berbahan stainless.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Proses ini memanfaatkan reaksi kimia alami saat air dipanaskan. Pada air keras yang mengandung kalsium karbonat (CaCO\u2083), mineral tersebut mengkristal membentuk kerak kapur. Kristal ini menjebak partikel mikroplastik dan mengangkatnya ke permukaan. &#8220;Semakin tinggi kadar kalsium karbonat, semakin efektif pengendapan NMPs. Pada konsentrasi 180\u2013300 miligram per liter, efisiensi penghilangan nanoplastik mencapai 84 sampai 90 persen,&#8221; jelas Zimin Yu, insinyur biomedis dari Guangzhou Medical University, dalam makalah penelitian.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meski air lunak dengan kadar CaCO\u2083 lebih rendah hanya menyaring 25 persen NMPs, metode ini tetap relevan sebagai langkah preventif. Jenis mikroplastik seperti polistirena, polietilena, dan polipropilena\u2014yang umum ditemukan dalam air minum\u2014ternyata dapat dikurangi signifikan melalui teknik ini.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Paparan mikroplastik dalam jangka panjang dikaitkan dengan gangguan mikrobioma usus dan risiko resistensi antibiotik. Meski damk pasti masih diteliti, mengurangi paparan dinilai krusial. &#8220;Merebus air bukan hanya membunuh patogen, tapi juga strategi jangka panjang untuk memitigasi risiko NMPs,&#8221; tambah Yu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Metode ini diharapkan dapat diadopsi luas, khususnya di daerah dengan akses terbatas terhadap teknologi penyaringan canggih. &#8220;Ini solusi rendah biaya yang bisa dilakukan siapa saja,&#8221; ujar tim peneliti. Mereka juga mendorong penelitian lanjutan untuk memverifikasi temuan ini dengan sampel lebih besar.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Merebus air selama <strong>ini<\/strong> identik dengan pencegahan penyakit infeksi. Kini, praktik tersebut memiliki nilai tambah sebagai benteng terhadap polusi plastik. &#8220;Minum air rebusan adalah langkah sederhana yang berdampak besar bagi kesehatan global,&#8221; pungkas para peneliti.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Temuan ini menguatkan urgensi kesadaran masyarakat akan bahaya mikroplastik sekaligus membuktikan bahwa solusi kompleks tidak selalu memerlukan teknologi tinggi.
